The application process for The Colby School was a process in which not only the parents but the student as well were involved. This process ultimately started with a tour of the school in which the parents and potential student were taken around the campus by the school director. If after the tour the student and parents were still interested, there was a 60 dollar application fee which was a non-refundable fee.
The application was submitted, and teachers from the previous school in which the student attended were contacted. In addition, the school arranged for students attending kindergarten through eighth grade to come into their appropriate grade and classroom for a day visit. During this day visit, the student would be in class for the whole day just as if the student was actually attending the school.Teachers supervised and observed the visiting student to see how well the student would do in The Colby School environment.
If the student was applying for the preschool program, there was a playgroup where the applying student would be put with other applicants. During this time, three of the four preschool teachers observed the preschoolers while the parents met with the preschool director and addressed any questions or concerns.
At the end of this process, all of the applicants were entered into a classroom pool in which teachers decided which students were the best fit for the school. The Colby School was dedicated to keeping diversity in the forefront of each and every classroom. There were three separate pools into which applicants were placed. Previous students were the first priority, while siblings of previous students were second priority. Lastly, students who had not attended or not had a sibling attend received third priority. If a student was accepted, the parent was required to pay a deposit of 500 dollars for the preschool program or 1,500 dollars for the K-8 program. These deposits were non-refundable but did go toward the final tuition cost.
