The faculty at The Colby School is held to a very high standard. Not only do they go through a vigorous application and interview process but they are required to have all of the necessary certifications by the state in order to be able to be an active faculty member. At The Colby School there is great pride in the continuing education of all staff members. More times than not the school and learning systems change around the country and the staff at the school are expected to be knowledgeable on all levels.

Each teacher is expected to be specialized in the appropriate grade level in which they will be interacting with. In addition the teaching staff is expected to have taken various courses throughout their collegiate school in the development of the psychological growth of children at various ages. All teachers hold at the very least a bachelors degree in education with some having gone on to achieve a degree at master’s level. Just like the students the staff is expected to strive for personal excellence even in their own continuing education. Since the classrooms are smaller and there is typically only one teacher per grade level the competition among the teachers is non existent.

Teaching at The Colby School requires the teacher to be well versed in the philosophy of the school and be in amity with any and all of the conditions of given philosophy. All teachers are seen equally among each other and make decisions as a unit instead of a hierarchy. I rare occasions some newcomers may feel as if it takes a bit of time to get used to this structure but there is a school administrator who serves as an unbiased liaison between all of the teachers. This school administrator does not hold any weight in any of the decision making processes.
